Cooking and Crafts

Whether you are cooking from your garden harvest or creating useful items for your homestead, finding directions that are easy to follow is  important.  This directory will provide you with "step-by-step"  help for cooking food your family will love, creating useful items for your home, and easy craft projects.

Our articles and recipes have been written and selected for ease of understanding,

simplicity and fun.  If you have a favorite "from the garden" recipe, or a craft idea,

send us an email.  We would be happy to list it (and give you the credit!).

If your looking for a cookbook that gets back to country basics....

A terrific cookbook written by country singer Loretta Lynn:

The 150 dishes in this folksy scrapbook lean heavily on ingredients like flour and fat, including breakfast foods like Cat Head Biscuits (made with shortening), Country Sausage Gravy (made by stirring flour and milk into sausage drippings), Hominy Grits (a yummy blend of grits, cheddar cheese, eggs, butter and spices) and traditional Appalachian concoctions like Scotch Eggs, which calls for "bulk pork sausage." Main dishes include backcountry favorites like Country Fried Venison and Kentucky Frog Legs, while desserts run from Gooey Cake and Lemon Whippersnappers to varieties of fudge.
